The Administration Block

Maina Wanjigi Secondary School is a public boarding (Gilrs only) secondary school, located along the 4th street of Eastleigh Section I.  The school was started in 1989 by the then Member of Parliament for Kamukunji Constituency Hon. Maina Wanjigi. Of the three that were started by him then, the others being Kamukunji and Uhuru secondary, the school got the honour of being named after him.  Through community effort, the school has grown from a single stream of 160 students to a 3-stream of over 600 students.

The school sits on a seven-acre piece of land whose green and flowery environment is second to none in Eastleigh. The beautiful flora that covers every corner of the school gives it a serene environment which is a great contrast to the noise and dust in the rest of Eastleigh. This goes a long way to enhance the learning environment.

Although in academic circles it is yet to make a mark, Maina Wanjigi Secondary School is one of the top schools in Nairobi County in boys’ and girls’ schools’ soccer.  The school does well in many extra-curricular activities and this has helped to build its name.  The school prides in having strong and active teams in volleyball, Music and the Young Women Enterprise (Y.W.E) some of which have caught national headlines.

At Maina Wanjigi, students are also taught life skills in order to prepare them cope with the challenges of life during and after school.

In the last few years, under the very able leadership of Mrs. Rajab, the school has made major infrastructural milestones which include the purchase of a school bus, construction of a block that houses the staffroom and some classes, an ablution block, construction of a modern mosque, completion of the Dining Hall and the administration block. .

Message from the Principal

{Dr. Manu Chandaria and Hon. Maina Wanjigi receive an award during a function in the school}

Over the last two years the school has experienced a lot of growth, from a population of 480 students at the end of year 2016 to 622 students.

We have also embraced ICT as a teaching tool and many teachers are now able to use it to teach, and involve the students;- This is a goverment sponsored programme through the Ministry of Education, for which the school is very greatful.

The school also managed to reclaim her land which for many years had an informal settlement.

We are also very proud to own a school bus, which is a big booster to educational trips for the students.
The school faces many challenges due to its geographical location, but we that God with the advent of the boarding facilities some of these challenges are becoming a thing of the past.
I hereby wish to urge all and sundry from all over the community to trust the school wholly with their daughters. The school is well secured with a perimeter wall which is guarded 24/7 by a competent security firm.
This is a 9 acre school with ample space for all activities expected of a school. We have enough classes, and teachers to keep the students busy.
The school is a beneficiary of the CDF Kamukunji under Hon. Yusuf Hassan who have managed to finish an Administration block for the school that was started during the tenure of Hon. Norman Nyaga.  Thye have also done 16 toilets for the school. The school will forever remain indebted to them.
The school management also wishes to thank the Global Peace Foundation in conjunction with the Manu Chandaria Foundation for donating water tank and having the school in the leap Hub project to help our students embrace entrepreneurial skills early in life.
Although situated in the busy Eastleigh Business Centre, our school is a green Hub in the middle of a desert thanks of Environment club.
